Job Description

Early Literacy Specialist

Job Description

*Please note: this is a full time, salaried position. If you have taught at the elementary level (or are teaching there right now) and would like to coach teachers on literacy at a school in need of improvement - this is for you!

We are seeking elementary educators who believe that all students deserve a great foundation in literacy regardless of their socio-economic background.  You should have experience implementing balanced literacy best practices in K-3 classrooms and a passion for sharing knowledge and collaborating with fellow teachers.

Our highly respected client has a team of 100+ balanced literacy coaches that provide one-on-one professional development coaching to early elementary (K-3) teachers in the School District of Philadelphia.  Our client’s Literacy Coaches work daily within a SDP school where they are a integral part of their school’s literacy strategy. They facilitate professional development, model teaching best practices, consult on classroom environment, conduct non-evaluative observations and work collaboratively with teachers to implement literacy strategies that enable student achievement. These positions are for the upcoming 2019-20 school year!

All Literacy Coaches must possess at least 5 years’ teaching/coaching experience (literacy) in a K-5 classroom.  A related Master’s degree is desired.  All Literacy Coaches must be able to pass all required clearances and background checks.

Here is what our client’s Literacy Coaches particularly enjoy in their position:

  • The opportunity to exponentially increase impact on student learning
  • The access to ongoing professional development in both literacy and coaching best practices
  • The moment a teacher or student makes a break through
  • The opportunity to grow your own literacy and coaching skill sets while developing other educators
About Our Client:

They are  a mission driven organization that is committed to embracing the diverse array of individuals who comprise our team. They draw inspiration for innovation from the children they serve and from educators, administrators, and the work-at-large. Our client is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides educators with training and coaching in the most effective practices for early literacy instruction for prekindergarten through third grade. Their work has been validated by prestigious organizations and has garnered national attention.

Our client’s proven theory of action shows that when teachers receive the right combination and intensity of training and coaching, they can become exemplary instructors who make an impact in helping children achieve. Our workshops and institutes build teachers’ understanding of literacy and the art and science of teaching children how to read and write. By focusing on professional skills that improve over time and are not lost when administrations, buildings, or curricula change, they help create a sustainable, school-wide culture of literacy that introduces students to the joys of reading, writing, and lifelong learning.
